Fresh back from a little trip to South Beach.   There's something about feeling the humidity in your hair and squishing your toes in the sand ~ especially after a long winter!  South Beach definitely has its spots that I feel the need to tiptoe around but I love it for how colorful, alive, and full of amazing decor it is, from the hotels to the landscaping, to the restaurants.   My favorite activity while there is taking my sweaty, unmade-up self for a long morning walk and  poking my head into as many spots as I can...

So perhaps I have been humming 'Call Me Maybe' all day but tonight it's all about Maybe Mustard!  Getting lots of mustard colored orders lately and I admire the choice. It's trendy yet subtle and goes wonderfully with brown or grey.  Sometimes tough to wear (for me at least) but I think for party planning, it shouldn't be ruled out. So next time you're planning an event think ~ Maybe Mustard?

Even though I am staring at snow on my porch, it's officially March and had to share a little Spring with you! I picked up a bouquet of baby carnations for a photoshoot this weekend.  I couldn't believe how delicate and dainty they were.  And just the perfect shade of blush. Nice and affordable, and really packed in there so good bang (ie, volume) for your buck. Be on the look out!  I'm seeing wedding, baby shower, Easter brunch tables! I take back everything I ever said about carnations...

Last month Pantone picked the Color of the Year 2013 as Emerald Green and now it can be seen everywhere..from inside homes to staring in weddings!  It is such a rich color. A green+gold pairing is classic and luxurious.  And emerald green paired with other green shades gives a really elegant, unique, organic look. A few photos below to inspire.  The Sweet, the Sane (a few option to work emerald green into your life!) and just a little insanity - stunning runway dresses from Ellie Saab, and that ring from the ring/earring combo Angelina Jolie wore a few years ago!

I’ve never written formal resolutions but this year I find myself jotting down a small list on the back of a Christmas card envelope. Whether they get checked off or not, I am going to try to keep one on the forefront …being the best ME this year.  I know our inclination as over-achieving women is to think of being the best daughter, sister, mommy, wife, friend, employee, healthy eater, runner, and even doggie mama.  But I hope you’ll share with me in trying to also be the best YOU to YOURSELF.  Wishing you blessings on your path in 2013!

Yea! I'm Back!

If you have arrived here from an annoying but necessary redirect, please bookmark my new home!   I have merged my two blogs (personal and sweet sanity designs) into one.  All I can say is P.H.E.W.  The process was tricky to say the least and in combination with the rollout of the sweetsanitydesign.com website it was quite a couple months.  But am so very excited and it's good to be BACK!

Each day on my walk home I pass by Oak Mill Bakery in Chicago.  It's hard not to gaze inside the front window.  What a pick me up!  This cake just stopped me in my tracks the other day.  Just love the misty lavendar-blue color with the assorted pink and purpley peonies on top. So chic!   Happy Monday!
