“Jar of Happiness” for a Friend

26 Jun

This Tuesday will be a wonderful day...a dear friend who has been in the hospital for almost a month will be returning home!!!  During her long stay one friend came up with beautiful idea that I just had to pass along.

We decided to send her a Jar of Happiness. The gist of this sweet idea is a jar that she could keep next to her bed.  When she felt down, or needed a distraction from the long hours in the hospital she could reach inside and pull out a little bit of happiness!

How to Build the Jar...
We contacted family and friends and asked them to over emails of memories, funny stories, inspirational quotes, little notes or even special photos they loved.  Everything was printed out.   For added color, you can print on different colored cardstock.   Cut up the memories into separate little pieces of paper and put into a big jar.  We used a big pretzel jar all cleaned out.  In addition to the notes, you could include their favorite candies, or any other tiny items that would brighten their day.  Decorate the inside with some colorful tissue and even the outside if you'd like!

We attached a fun label to the lid of the jar, too. As a friend pointed out "What if it sits on the floor! It needs to be cute from the top!"  We clearly were desperate to make sure this brought some cheer.  :) After further brainstorming the title expanded to "Jen's Jar of Jam Packed Happiness from all of her Adoring Fans!"

Then off our little pink jar of love went!   It's a neat way to include well wishes from so many people.  Maybe you have a friend that needs a Jar of Happiness!

Tops of 2011

16 Nov

Happy New Year everyone!  Hope your holidays were great.   I did lots of eating and my body responded in the form of spontaneous narcoleptic episodes on the couch. Well, some self care is always nice and it's back to reality this week!

I love checking Google Analytics this time of year. It's full of such incredible data about site traffic and it continues to amaze me that people are visiting. :)   I thought I would share the top posts of 2011  based on the most hits so here they are!

Hiding the Wireless Routers

* This one still continues to get tons of comments both good and skeptical ~ many people are concerned with ventilation and overheating, as they should be!  I definitely suggest making the holes in the back nice and big for ventilation, and if you can make more on the bottom and sides depending on your set up, all the better. For the first few days or weeks I would just walk by and open the boxes to ensure nothing is getting too hot and to see if your ventilation is adequate. I still occasionally touch my hand to it as I pass by and everything is a-okay on my end.

6. San Diego
7. Dallas
8. Charlotte
9. Washington

Now if I could just visit any of these in 2012 we'd be off to a good start! :)   Happy New Year!

Good Morning Pretty Sunshine! Brunch Gift Basket

29 Jul

To know me is to know that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. THIS friend knows me.  It is my all time favorite meal to go out for and even some of my favorite dinners are 'breakfast-for-dinners."  This was brought to my doorstep as an over the top, unnecessary thank you but I took it and am ready to devour it all the same.  Pancake flippers, mixes, syrup, a mini waffle pan, dishtowels, champagne for mimosas and so much more.  But the show stopper....tiny orange juice glasses with an "O".  I think tonight will be pancakes for dinner...

Baby Shower Invite Reads…Don’t Wrap Gifts!

21 Feb

2010_02_20_donotwrap So have seen a trend lately...shower invites that read "Please do not wrap gifts."   This makes someone like me very  UNEASY. But ok, I see the practicality - all the presents can be set out and admired, the Mom-To-Be can move through them quickly at opening time, and the guests are spared sitting through hours of unwrapping!  However...how can you still present it in a cute contained way? The gift bag seems like a solid option.  And here's another. I went with a shirt box, added some fun tissue and a ribbon tied around the box with a bow.  I don't think I broke the rules...but still managed a gift feel! You can even leave the box nested in it's top so she can cover it and carry home

Baby Shower Scrapbook For the New Mom!

31 Mar

2009_03_31_picture
A twist on the typical scrapbook...

Mail all the shower guests (and don't forget to include the Grandmas-To-Be!) a card to fill out and Instructions.  So if it's Susie's Shower, Kim should fill out her blank card with anything she wants to tell Baby about their relationship; a funny story of the two of them from college, something she loves about Susie, or just why she'll be a great Mom. Kim will send back the card along with her favorite photo of her and the Mommy-To-Be. Glue them all in a scrapbook, each person getting their own page.

I love it turns out to be a heartfelt collection of stories and photos for the New Mom and such a mix. It can even be a picture book for Baby to learn Mommy's friends! Watch the photo submissions girls...Baby doesn't need to learn that Kim is Mommy's friend who really likes dirty martinis.

Xmas Gift Cheat Sheet – While You Still Remember!

2 Feb

011909_XmasGifts At first it just helped me keep track of which Christmas gifts I had ordered online, and whether I had wrapped and shipped all the gifts yet.  (You know, to avoid the sad lonely gift that was shoved under the bed and isn't found until June.)  But now it has morphed into a fantastic cheat sheet from year to year!

- Did I give my hairdresser cash or a gift last year?
- Did Jen and I bag gifts and just meet for brunch?
- Did I finally stop giving my crazy neighbor a gift?

Keep each year as a different tab. It also prevents you from giving the same  gift to someone two years in a row! Download XmasCheatSheet
